Pet People

Carry on Pet People!

I can't win. Yesterday, my phone line at home went dead. The Boss, who is good at fixing everything, checked the house lines, and that is not the problem, which means we had to call BellSouth. However, our cell phones don't really work at our house (we can sometimes use them if we stand out at the mail box), so he had a hard time calling in the problem. He SAID he got through and gave the info before getting cut off.

SO, I can't use my computer, as I still have dial-up. Friday, they are coming to install satellite-based high speed Internet, which I'm sure will create a whole new set of problems.

This morning I felt like a drug addict who couldn't have his fix! I always check my email in the morning and take care of that sort of business, post on the blog, call my Mom--couldn't do any of it! But then it sort of felt freeing. I cleaned up the yard, did Yoga and a step-aerobic routine. I felt better.

Pet people, you can carry on without me when I'm having such problems! I got a moment to post here at work before getting down the day's job.

I noticed there was a bit testiness over hunting. Tsk, tsk. That's to be expected with a group of friends who are becoming like family. And don't we all have huge arguments with family, but still kiss and make up?

So talk about what you want! My morning experience also brought home how great a dog or cat's life can be. They don't stress over telephones and computers, war and peace and all the other weights of the world. Why they teach us so many lessons!

Sandy,
I am having a similar day. But I do have internet! So come on over and check your email, call your mom, and shoot-we could even have a drink. Is it too early for a Bloody Mary, margarita or some beast? Hahaha I do warn you tho, it is kind of noisy here.We are having a second story deck turned into a sunroom and a new roof put on the house-it is quite chaotic.

My poor kitties and doggies are suffering the most. We used to have a bay window in the kitchen. It is now a big gaping hole in the back of the house. Because of this big gaping hole, the pets are all sequestered in my bedroom. My big kitty "bubby" is voicing his displeasure by shrieking a strange high pitched howl/meow every few minutes. Bubby is my kitty that normally does not meow but makes a throaty chirp instead(I think we talked about this sound Pam) so I know he is very upset. I turned on a radio in the room with them but so far I don't think it has really helped.

Well, as I see that Bubby is now trying to squeeze his curvacious 20 pound butt under the door so I better go love him up a bit. Take care all!

OMG!!!!! Curvacious 20 pound butt is cracking me up!!!!! I have a big hunk of kitty love also, so I can totally identify with that picture.

Thanks, Shannon. I've been having a crazy day myself, and that gave me the laugh I needed!!!!

Curvacious 17 1/2 pound butt is what my Courtney has but thats a lot for a cat,ha. Still Bubby has Courtney beat, I'll have to let her know so she can feel better since she is a girl and Bubby is a boy,ha.
Yes Shannon, know what you mean about the chirping although Penelope doesn't do it when she's upset. She does it more when she is calm, weird how they can be the same yet different right? When Peneople is locked in the bedroom for whatever reason she goes straight for the carpet and goes to town, reason #1 why we want to rip it up and put down hard wood.
And hey about too early for that drink? I say it's always 5 O'clock somewhere in the world and a Bloddy Mary is actually a breakfast drink ( ever heard of mixing beer with tomato juice? It's actually pretty good so we could even have a "Bloody Beast" too,ha. Also how about champagne, it's for brunch too so hey girl you can't go wrong! Ha.

Yay!!! The loud worker people are gone! I have released the hounds (and the kitties) and they are very excited. They have been busy smelling the new room...plotting where they will pee first I'm sure.

A big hunk of kitty love-I like that Stacey! I think Bubby is mad at me. I told him he weighs more than Courtney and he said to tell her that its just because he is big boned. I told him that I still loved him even if he did have man boobs. He is my big Bubby Wubby.

Pam, you have just given me a license to drink all day!! haha..almost drove to Mulligans earlier but was able to fight off the urge. Hopefully today was the worst day of this construction stuff and tomorrow will be better...or at least quieter!

Shannon,
I am with you today! We had a new front door installed today and the girls were locked up in the sunroom. Normally their favorite room in the house but only when they chose to enter. Sheba the brave girl sat up top the Monkey tree while Cheetah scardy baby hid under the futon! I checked in on them often and they never moved. Sheba was content napping away as Cheetah stayed low the entire time. As soon as the noisy men left, I opened up the door so the girls could be freeeeeee. Sheba jumped down from her monkey perch and took off to check the new front door and to get her sniffer on. That nose was going a mile a minute! Cheetah would not come out from her hiding spot for all the cat treats in the world!

The Saint came home early and we ran to town for a bite to eat before we cut down a tree in the back yard. We came home and I immediately checked on baby girl and she was still in the same spot! After we started the tree cutting, I came in for something and checked on her and now she had moved from that hiding spot to under the bedcovers, her second favorite hiding spot! Thank goodness the noise is over and we will get back to our routine tomorrow! I hope your noisy renovations are over soon Shannon and then all will be wonderful in animal land!

I have a question...
Is my Sheba the only cat that goes crazy with her sniffing? She has to give everyone a Cat Scan the minute they come into the house. When we have been in the yard working, she comes running to meet us at the door and no matter what we are doing, we must stop in our tracks to let her sniff us from head to toe! I have never known a cat with such sniffing insistence. Is this normal or do we just have a cat that is half hound dog?

skeeter, all three of our girls are sniffers but Brittany is our hound sniffer, so no yours aren't the only ones. Brittany also likes to sniff my breath in the mornings before we get out of bed, guess she thinks I may have been eating something and hiding it from her,ha. It's like ok, Mom what's on your breath and whe are you gonna feed us? We're starving! Yea, yea, yea, starving cats, so mistreated around here.

Shannon, yep, you got the license but most of the time I guess you might want to wait till it's cocktail time on our side of the world. There are exceptions though, you know what I mean? ha.

One word for breakfast and/or brunch drink of choice:

MIMOSA!!!! Orange juice and champagne. Wonderful. But, it will put you on your a** if you don't watch it!!!

Mimosa...love the trees so I'm sure I would love the drink(do I sound like there is a drink I don't like? haha) Speaking of trees, heard and then saw a beautiful flock of cedar waxwings way in the top of a tall tree today. I could watch and listen to them for hours. Also have been seeing a bunch of robins. Do you suppose that means spring is somewhere close by? I hope so...my old bones are sick of the cold.

Skeeter, I just saw your post-how funny! I have never had any of my cats do that to me. My 2 outside kitties Wizzie girl and Mojo-Jojo do that to each other whenever they see each other, but I guess us humans don't even warrant a sniff! My 2 insiders are only sniffers if I have been around other peoples pets-THEN they are all noses.

Pam, that cracks me up. You know that Brittany has given you a sure sign of true love-or maybe you're right-she's really hungry! Morning breath...thats pretty rough stuff at our house!

Tarzan sniffs closely if I'm eating something and Catfish likes to sniff and then lick my face and HAIR, but only if freshly washed. He won't kiss my cheek if it has makeup on! Tarzan won't lick me at all, but he and Catfish love to groom and lick on each other.

Shannon,
I get such a charge when seeing Cedar Waxwings in the yard! I usually spot them in the spring and fall during their migration. Such a beautiful bird! Last fall about 12 of them landed in our small crabapple tree and rested for about 2 hours. If we had not seen them land in the tree, we would have never spotted them as they blended in perfectly with the colors of the leaves.

Sandy, uh oh, they don't want to lick your makeup and these are the same two cats that lick thier butts? Ha Ha, does that say something for the makeup you're wearing? ha, just kidding. They probably just don't like the tast of it and if you had soap on your face it's understandable. Brittany has tried to lick a bar of soap before.
And what about Brittany siffing my breath in the morning? What does that say about that? Oh my! I really think it's becasue she wants her breakfast cause once she is ready for it she will not leave me alone till I get up and get it.

Stacey, I'm afraid I have to stick with straight champagne because I can't drink orange juice, it tears me up. Fly Boy and my daughter can't handle it either, must me something weird with us. I can eat oranges but they bother me a bit too just not like the juice.

I have a drink that ya'll would probably like. It's called a Bloomer Dropper. It's sweet and tangy and you can hardly taste that alcohol in it, hence the name.

3 shots Parrot Bay Rum
1/2 can of frozen pink lemonade
Half a peeled/pitted peach
Ice
Mix in a blender.

This is one of my favorites in the summer. When my best friend and I get together and drink we always start out following the recipe, but by the end of the day 3 shots turns into 6 or 7. We asked our hubbies to make us a pitcher once and they asked how much rum to put in. We said "about an inch" which ended up being more like 2 or 3 inches. But hey when you’re having that much fun, it really doesn't matter anymore. It has become a running joke with all of us when someone asks how much of something. The answer is always, "about an inch."

Adrienne,
Yum that sounds good to me... I had a nasty something to say about the Saint and an inch but I will not go there. Thank goodness for the delete button or I would be in trouble now....

Pam,
I think that is funny about Brittany sticking her nose in your mouth for a sniff of morning breath! I don’t think my cats would want to smell my morning breath; we eat way too much garlic and onions in this house!

I am going to be repeating myself with Pam but a few minutes ago I heard this strange noise in the storage closet. I found Sheba on top of my sewing machine box trying to get inside the thing. Sheba loves her boxes! She was biting at the Styrofoam and had it all over her black fur! She looked like she had snow all over her! I picked her up and was trying to get the white balls off of her and she was just a wiggling and kicking with those cricket legs! I had a hard time getting her clean for my laughing at her. She is my clown girl for sure…

Life without my girls would be so boring!

Well girls, have to tell you about me and the drinks. I cannt drink anything sweet, that is why I don't care for mixed drinks. I stick to dry wines ( mostly reds ) and beer. If I tried to drink anything with soda or any sweet to it I would get sick to my stomach. I am like that with deserts too, I can eat just a bit otherwise I get sick after. As I joked before it's just because I am so naturally sweet that my body overloads if I add any,ha. I know a lot of people who would love your drink though Adrienne and down a few pitchers too.

Skeeter, I think we can all guess the little nasty you were thinking about,ha you bad girl you. Of course sine we can figure it out without you saying anymore guess that makes us bad girls too,ha.

Oh and Adrienne, if 3 inches equal 1 and someone says "Something" is 6 inches then oh good gracious keep me away!!!!!!!!!!! Get my drift ladies? Ha Ha!!!!

Down Pam, down Pam! Hey, you may get Dragon out of his slump if you keep this up! At times I wish I had your sweet problem Pam. I need to cut out the sweets then maybe my jeans would feel better on me! Mom and dad are coming for a visit next week and I already have the ingredients for the Bloomer Dropper on my grocery list! Think they will be good to sip while sitting on the front porch or patio! But the bloomers will not be dropping for anyone but the Saint! Ha-ha....

Bloomer dropper...I just noticed this Adrienne-sounds delicious. If my husband sees the name of it he will be making it for me every day. This blog is definitely making me thirsty.

Now now Pam...seems you and I have our minds in the gutter as I was thinking the same thing. Hubby is gone so I better stick to my margarita..will try the bloomer dropper when he gets home!!!

Shannon, why wait? You don't need "You Should" to be home just to enjoy the Bloomer Dropper. Call a friend over or what the heck make a pitcher for yourself and kick back. Put on some good relaxing music or put on a good movie,or drop your bloomers and get in the tub with bubbles, just any ole thing that relaxes. I know I've had to do that while Fly Boy's been on many of his missions. I don't care what they say, it's ok to drink alone. Listen to George Thourougood, he'll tell ya,ha. In the case of our hubby's if we waited for them to get home for drinks, it would be a long DRY haul!
I bet we weren't the only ones thnking the same thing about the inches either, tee hee.

Okay Pam, I had to reread your post. I know you did not mean for Shannon to have a man friend over for drinks while "You Should' is away... When, I know you mean a girlfriend. But when I first read it, my eyes about popped out then I realized what you were saying. I had to read between the lines… Funny.... i do like the idea of have a Bloomer Dropper and drop them bloomers and get in the bubbles!
