Games Pet People Play

What games do you like to play with your dogs and cats, or what kind of games do they like to play with each other? Either real games, or games as in "his girlfriend is playing games with his emotions!"

I LOVE watching my cats play with each other. The other day I saw a usual game. Tarzan was in the living room of the apartment and heard Catfish jumping off the bed in the bedroom. Quickly, he ran and hid under a round end table covered with material. It was hilarious, because I knew what he was doing--waiting for Catfish to saunter by unaware. As soon as he did, Tarzan leaped out, Catfish jumped in surprise and the chase was on. I see Catfish do this to Tarzan outside all of the time. Hide behind a bush, wait for Tarzan and then POUNCE. They both also get into wild moods where they go nuts over the feather at the end of the fishing-pole type toy or with little toy mice they bat around like mad.

The dogs will chase balls, but they usually don't want to bring them back. They think the game is to play keep-away.I tried frisbee, but they just look at it stupidly and make no attempt to catch it. I used to play tug with them when they were younger. Tramp especially loved that game when she was alive. She growl constantly during tuggy time. Sometimes two dogs would play tug with a toy, but once Scooter joined the pack I didn't encourage that, because, as you know, he has bully, bossy tendencies that must not be encouraged!

And then there's the mind games. Scooter finishes his chewie treat first in the morning. Then he'll go to the door and act excited, which brings the other dogs to the door. But when I open it, he won't go out, he wants to rush back in to pick up the treat that Zoe left unattended when she fell for his ruse and ran to the door. I know this is all an evil plan of his! He's very clever!

So let us know what fun things your gang enjoys doing! Pictured above is Scooter, bottom, enjoying time with his best friend, Freeway, who we don't get to see any more because he moved to North Carolina. He used to live in Nashville with my friend, Laura, and we'd go visit for the weekend or she'd come here for a few days. She and Freeway were two of the guests at the infamous Christmas Brawl of 2004. Scooter and Freeway, when together, would wrestle almost CONSTANTLY! They wore each other OUT. A good thing. :)

ok Sandy,

For a second, my "mind in the gutter" persona took over and I thought you had posted a naughty doggie picture. Haha...got me to reading quickly!

My very smart doggies love the game of chasing the light from the flashlight. They would run all over snorting, pawing and just being crazy trying to catch that light. Cody's favorite game was chase the ball/hide and seek. I would throw the ball to another room in the house and when he ran to get it, I would scurry and hide behind a door or somewhere I could quickly fit. He would grab the ball in his mouth, wheel around and see I wasn't there. He would know immediately that we were now playing hide and seek so he would drop the ball and race around and find me. Once he found me he would go crazy barking and jumping and pawing at me.

We hear my kitties thundering thru the house at night. I don't know what they are playing-too sleepy to get up and find out.

Isn't it beautiful outside? I am loving this weather. I am fixing to take my daughters doggie for a walk and get some much needed exercise for myself. Have a great day everyone!

Max and Charlie are ball crazy dogs. Mas has a small vinyl soccer ball and Charlie has a red tennis ball. They also love fuzzy squeaky toys. Charlie is a hoarder who will round up every ball and toy and take it into Hubby's office for safe-keeping. Max will wait until Charlie is otherwise occupied and sneak in and steal a toy and play with it until Charlie realizes it is gone and he will wait until Max's attention is diverted and then steal it back. Max likes to chase his soccer ball and will bring it back and will put it within 10 feet of me and wait for me to throw it again. Charlie will bring the ball sometimes. Usually he has the ball in his mouth and if I grab it and throw it,he will chase it and take it back to the office so I can't throw it again. Max and Aimee have an old Star Wars Ewok stuffed animal that is about a foot long. They take turns humping it. It's awful, poor Ewok. They can get quite enthusiastic about it too. Charlie has rope toys with knotted ends that he will shake violently, growling the whole time. Occasionally they have flown up and hit Hubby in the head and other places.

Scooter like to play with strips of cardboard that you zip of boxes. He likes the rings that come from milk bottles when you open them the first time and he likes small furry mice but Charlie eats them so he doesn't get to play with them often.

Bad Shannon, Bad Bad Shannon.....

What are we going to do with you? You are starting to sound like Dragon now!

Sandy--I LOVE that picture of Scooter and his bestest buddy. Way back when Dixie and Reb were young, they used to play like that. I long for those days. Lucy would love to play with Reb like that, but he's too damn old and cantankerous for that!

Yea Dragon, those thoughts come about what is now? Every 2 minutes? I do believe that is ablut right fot the stats.
Dogs do too have bestest friends. Our Roxie dogs best friends are her sisters even thought they are cats. Roxie thinks she is just a big cat. Her favorite thing is a tennis ball or Frisbee, you throw and she returns wit good ole dog slobbers all over it. She'd do that all day.
Our girls love the fishing pole with whatever is hanging from it, would play that for a whole day if I could keep up! They never tire of it. They love the little plastic milk things too for about 15 minutes. They love most of thier toys for about 30 seconds then forget about it. They love pieces of paper thrown on the floor and ball point pens, anything like that they aren't really supposed to bother. They do play chase with each other and sometimes it sounds like a herd of elephants going through the house. Oh yea, they love a piece of material or a string hanging off of anything too. It just depends on thier mood. Thier most expensive toys, well that thrill lasts about 15 to 20 minutes then it's who cares.
We once bought Samantha a Cat house and it was so cute. We had it home and put together before I realized it looked like a REAL CAT HOUSE! It was cardboard but amde to look like brick on the outside. It was twothree stories and had cats painted on the outside. Thing is the cats were walking upright dressed like hookers and they were male cats all around it and they were wearing suits, drinks in hand and smoking. It was too funny. I need to ask Fly Boy if that is still around somewhere ( it folded up for storage )and if so we'll take photos to show you.

I forgot to mention that our girls not only like the flashlight too but we bought a laser pointer just for cats or so I thought. When it came one of the things it projects is a woman posing in a sucductive pose. It wa supposed to ahve a mouse but oh well, the girls don't care.

I love the way pets steal each other's toys! It's like they always think the other one has something better, even if it is the exact same thing.

And the cardboard or plastic ring fun--it's just like a kid at Christmas will play with the box more than the actual toy.

Sandy, my girls aren't all that interested in a toy sometimes unless thier sister is playing with it. It's just like kids. Also I can give one a toy then give the same toy to the other two but are they happy about that? No they have to hav ethe very one that sissy is playing with. They totally ignor the exzact same mouse or whatever I've given them. They have to have the same one!

Pam, yes, every two minutes, and Guinevere loves it!!!

My puppies love to play games. They love to play the game "Get the Cat!!" It works especially well when the big, fat cat is trapped in the kitchen and has no where to run.

Dragon, just shame on you! I know you're just rying to ruffle a few feathers here and you wouldn't let the cat get hurt no matter what.
