Calling all Pet People! Up for a Gathering?

Now that warm weather is here, I thought maybe we crazy Pet People could have a get-together if you're all game.

It would have to be on a Sunday, as I work nights Tuesday through Saturday. Or, I have a long-awaited vacation coming up, and I'll be off May 26 to June 4, so we can do it May 26 or June 2 if a Saturday is better.

You all can come out to my house if you want, though I live about 20 miles from town off Hwy 13 in the southwest corner of Montgomery County. I have a big deck and we can have food, fun and Bloomer Droppers among other thirst-quenchers. Or we can meet for a picnic in town at the RiverWalk or Rotary Park and each bring a dog along. Somewhere with a pavillion in case it rains. OR, we can meet for dinner somewhere where we can reserve enough space.

Skeeter, are you still coming to Clarksville for a visit? I know Adrienne lives in Virginia, so if we're here at my house we can call her and put her on speaker phone! Unless she wants to make a special trip and visit!

Let me know if you are interested!Discuss what you'd like to do here on the blog and then e-mail me your phone numbers and e-mail addresses again so I can make a roster, as well as the best time to call to: Petsspeak@aol.com. Let me know if I can give out phone numbers to others.

Sounds like fun! Let me know what weekend and maybe I can drive up for the weekend. I could bring stinky Stella. She loves to travel. Are there pet friendly hotels near by?

The weekend of the 26th would work for me since my office will be closed on Monday for Memorial Day. That way I wouldn't be cramped for drive time.

And I will probably be out of town the weekend of the 26th for the same reason. Sweetie and I are thinking about going to Louisiana to visit some family for a long weekend (or a little longer). Let's say majority rules. Whichever weekend accommodates the most people. Let's face it, not every one will be able to come no matter when we do it.

The Saint and I will be in Clarksville from the evening of May 10 until noontime on May 13 which is Mothers day... Our nieces graduation at Murray KY on Saturday will be the priority this trip. Although Saturday evening may be open for us. This will be a quick weekend visit with the girls staying home in GA. We had planned on meeting up with Pam at some point that weekend so the Saint could look at her computer but I am not sure the timing will be good with her and Flyboy then…

We may return again around 4th of July though. We will be sure to put aside a day for meeting y’all then if possible for all.... ah, don’t Watermelon Droppers sound good?

Stacey, you can go to Louisanna any old time! Have a long weekend here!

Adrienne, I am pretty sure the Riverview Inn, which is right downtown allows pets. I know the owner and can find out.

Then maybe we can meet again around July 4th when Skeeter is back!

Or maybe we can meet for dinner Saturday May 12 before Skeeter leaves. I can maybe take a longer dinner break from work.

Any way, lets wait until Pam, Jennifer, Alice and the others weigh in.

Shannon, meant to ask you, has the black and white kitty still showing up? If we can get him to Cats Are Us we can have his leg looked at.

Count me in. I am local so you won't be able to keep me away.

Sandy, the kitty has been coming, sometimes I see it briefly eating the cat food I put out, and sometimes not at all. I have been putting food and water out in the same place every night and its almost always gone in the morning.Things will hopefuly be slow at my house tonight and I can put some sardines or something into a carrier and see if that will work. Do you still have my email address? Will you email me your contact info just in case I am able to get it? If I can get it, should I just go to Cats R Us with it or do I call them first?

Also, thanks everyone for your kind words. I am sorry for my emotional rant yesterday. I am rested today and feeling a little more stable and in control of my emotions. I am glad I have a place to talk and let this stuff out and hopefully ya'll don't think I am too crazy. Everything ya'll posted back to me really helped and I appreciate your being there for me.

I am ready for the bloomer droppers! Lets just decide where and when!

Hey guys, I'm back for a few minutes anyway. Waiting for the repair man for the computer to arrive so may not be on here long but hopefully can check all that ahs been said since I've been away. I can't wait to have a get together but as some of you that I just wrote to know, Fly Boy and I will be in Vanderbuilt hospital May 9th through the 12th for him to have major surgery. For those who don't know, he has a bleed in one of his crainial arteries and it has given him double vision. As a pilot he can't fly and it's driving him nuts you know so we got to get him back up. This is major brain surgery and will take 6 to 7 hours and he will be in intensive care the first 24 hours. I will be staying with him the whole time. You guys can plan whatever then I will join you on the next one which I hope will be soon. June or July hopefully. I do plan to have all you guys all here too as soon as it works out. Well want to check on the other things written. Please keep Fly Boy ( and me )in your prayers.

Saw this in the paper today. Maybe some of us local dog people can do this. Unfortunately, I can't be one of them, since I have a function in Nashville on the 19th. But, I wanted to share the info with the rest of you Pet People!!!!

Doggiepalooza planned for Bark Park

The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department will host Doggiepalooza 2 to 4 p.m. May 19 at the Bark Park at Fairgrounds Park.

The free event includes fly-ball demonstrations and demonstrations of the facility's new agility equipment. Area rescue organizations and dog-related businesses will also be giving out free information to pet owners. There will even be a dog and owner look-a-like contest.

The Doggiepalooza event is being organized in efforts to raise awareness in the community about the benefits of the dog park including exercise and socialization with other dogs.

The Bark Park opened in the spring of 2006 and is located in the south end of Fairgrounds Park next to the Zinc Plant Road Bridge. Dogs are allowed to run and exercise off-leash in this two-acre fenced in area.

For more information, call the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department at 645-7476.

Hey guys I should have said Fly Boy's surgery is major Neurosurgery since it isn't actually his brain they are working on but the arteries and veins feeding the nerves in his brain. Still it's very serious and I am a bit nervous.

Skeeter,
I checked out the web site and deceided to be a foster mom for a while. I'm waiting to hear back form them at this point so I can fill out the rest of the application and they can come do a home visit. I'm very excited about it. This might help my need to add to our family for a while and do some good at the same time. I'll keep you all posted.

Oh Adrienne that is great news! I am so glad that I took the time to do a bit of investigating on the Web for you! I feel like I have done my good deed for the week and are helping a dog myself! I am so happy that you are going to open up your home to Foster Goldies and I know in time you may find the perfect pet to keep. But in the meantime, you will provide a great temporary home... Networking is a great thing with this Blog! Again thanks Sandy for bringing it to us!!!

Hey Pet People, it looks like Sweetie and I will be here for Memorial Day weekend after all. I think we have decided to stay here and work on a home improvement project instead of traveling. We can go home to see the family later in the summer. Has there been a consensus yet on this "gathering"??

Shucks, the In-laws will be coming to GA to see us that weekend. If they should cancel, then maybe I can talk the Saint into driving me back to Clarksville again this month. We will be heading Clarksville way this Thursday and it looks like Saturday (May 12) night may be the only spare time we may have while there in case anyone would like to meet up with us.../ Let me know….

Skeeter, I have a veterans' meeting in Nashville during the day on the 12th, but I can be back for dinner time. I would be delighted to go out to dinner or have a drink with you and the Saint.

You've got my numbers don't you? Call me!

Stacey,
I did some digging in my files and did find your phone number... I am not sure we will be available to meet up as family some times makes plans for us and the graduation is priority this trip. But I will give you a call as soon as we know that we are free for dinner on Saturday... Since several were talking about Cancuns, how about meeting there for dinner? Pam, Dragon, Sandy, Shannon, etc anyone else up for a margarita and some nachos this Saturday (May 12) night? We cannot get too crazy because the Saint and I have to drive back to GA the next morning…

Maybe whoever can meet on the 12th can do so for a quickie, but maybe we can meet over Memorial Day weekend (since I am on VACATION) and have a picnic, and hopefully Adrienne can make it! I have to meet my personality twin!

I will get the contact list to you all before then and maybe we can start calling each other and planning.

COUNT ME IN!!! Hey, she said a quickie..... Damn, my mind is starting to go there before Dragon and Skeeter now. Shame on me!

Ah, nothing like a quickie!
I will be on my moms new computer (that the Saint is installing for her) so I will check in with yall and we can make definate plans once I am in town. Hope to see some of you soon!

Are Hubbies invited too? Mine doesn't want me traveling that far by myself. Last time I did was to Phoenix and the engine in my car blew up. Although I could probably talk him into it. Thats the "I get my way" attitude. Plus I can out argue him on any thing!

What about dogs? I want to bring Stella with me. She loves to travel and I know she would love it.

Sandy, FYI- The Riverview Inn's web site says they do not accept pets. I'll have to look for something else.

I think the guest house at Ft. Campbell may take pets. At one time they did anyway... The Saint will be with me! He is as much my pet as the cats! ha-ha...

Adrienne, of course hubbies are welcome. If he can handle it, of course??? I'm surprised the Riverview doesn't allow pets. They are huge supporters of the Humane Society here. Are you looking at Memorial Day weekend to bring hubby and Stella?? I'll see if I can do some looking around too.

Satcey,
I looked online last night and found a Best Western. There rates are pretty good and they accept pets. If Hubby comes I have to bring the whole gang unless I can get a co- worker to watch Mattie and Oscar for the weekend. That's why I'm trying to leave him at home. I think Stella and I deserve a mommy/ daughter weekend. She loves it when it's just her and I. Memorial Day weekend is the only weekend I could come down there. So if ya'll have to change the date, I wouldn't be able to come. Let me know what ya'll decide.

Tuesday, May 08, 2007 3:03:00 PM
Blogger Stacey said...

Oh well, in that case, NO HUBBIES ALLOWED. Wink, wink. I'm sure Sandy's Boss will run far, far away if we all show up at his house anyway. I think I was the only local that really had issues with Memorial Day weekend for the big get-together, and I'm staying here now. I think it will be FUN! Once everybody has each other's contact info, we can start finalizing actual plans. :)

Well gang I would love to join you all on Memorial weekend but--- thst is right after Fly Boy's surgery and we will just be getting home from Vanderbuilt so probably won't work for me. I'm sad not to be able to be there as I want so much to meet ya'all! Now May 12 should be ok but Fly Boy would ahve to be with me if it's after dark. I have terrible night vision and not much depth perception at night so need a driver. Of course if it's a "girl only" he could drop me off but then we don't really want a girls only cause we need our dragon to be there. Anyway someone call me if it is a go for the 12th!

Hubby's are welcome, Pam! We'd love to meet Fly Boy. I assume Skeeter will have the Saint with her. It will be good to get to know each other a bit.
