Miss Tennessee Tuttle's Happy Ending!

Pictures are from Stacy, Mrs. Tuttle Turtle in her new, permanent home!

Stacy says: ""I love her already!" Those were Tanya's words about Mrs. Tuttle. She sounds so excited. Here are two pictures she just sent me! Skeeter, we have found a turtle a wonderful new home with a mommy that will love her. Why do I feel so good right now??? I guess it really doesn't matter what kind of animal it is that we rescue, they are all as deserving. HUGS!!"

Stacy, why don't you give us a rundown and reminder of how the story started and ended up with the happy ending!

NOTE ON Saturdays' meeting: I should be able to take a little longer dinner break and meet you all. Also, on Sunday, my day off, I will FINALLY get to making the roster of our contact information. Adrienne, thanks for the offer to do it, but I'll just go ahead and do it, because my Petspeak e-mail is on AOL and that is so slow for some reason, so forwarding them all would take longer than just cutting and pasting the info to a word document. Also, since the courthouse is right across the street from where I work, I plan to pop over on my break to say hi to those coming before the County Commission meeting Monday! I won't be able to bring a dog though!

So, after we hear Stacy's rundown of Mrs. Tuttle's happy journey to a new home, add any good rescue stories you have of your own!

The Miss Tuttle story started when Skeeter wanted to help find a good home for a turtle. Her sister-in-law took in the turtle when she was dumped by her original owner because they didn't want to fool with it anymore. She thought the turtle was considered an "exotic pet" or something since he was from out of country?? This is what Skeeter said: "A desert turtle. It is a turtle from Afghanistan and could not be let go into the wild of our country. He would need to be conditioned to be with other turtles as well because he has always been a single turtle."

It would seem that Skeeter's SIL travels alot for work and was gone for long periods at a time. The turtle wasn't exactly neglected, but it wasn't getting much attention and the SIL didn't really know what to do with the turtle. So, even though the turtle lived in Virginia, Skeeter decided she needed to find it a better home. She posted on the blog here asking if anyone could help.

Being an animal lover, I wanted to help find the turtle a home also. I emailed my friend, Tanya, that runs Agape Animal Rescue in Mt Juliet, TN. She is the rescue lady that saved my Lucy and her litter mates from a ditch and found them all forever homes. So, I knew she could help me find a refuge or something for this turtle.

Well, it turns out that Tanya loves "exotic" animals and wanted the turtle to come and live with her here in Tennessee!! So, Skeeter and her mother-in-law arranged to take custody of the turtle from the SIL. Skeeter and the Saint drove to Virginia for Easter and picked up the turtle and took it back home to Georgia. Skeeter did some wonderful research on the species of turtle and found out IT is actually a SHE. She and the Saint did some shopping and made a fabulous home for the turtle (hereby nicknamed Miss Tuttle by Skeeter), to keep her comfortable until her journey to Tennessee to her new home. According to Skeeter, Miss Tuttle really came out of her shell while she lived with them. (YES, I DID GO THERE!! LOL)

Anyway, just yesterday, the saga and long journey of Miss Tuttle reached it's conclusion. Skeeter and the Saint journeyed from Georgia to Mt Juliet with Miss Tuttle, and turned her over to her new mommy. According to Skeeter, she said Tanya walked around with Miss Tuttle rubbing her shell and telling her she loved her!! We pet people are a wacky bunch, aren't we??

Anyway, Tanya emailed me as soon as she got Miss Tuttle home and settled in and sent these pictures. She seems really pleased to have a new turtle in the family. Knowing Tanya as I do, Miss Tuttle could not possibly be in better hands! You can see all about her rescue at http://www.agaperescue.org/.

WOW! The lengths we will go to just to help animals. That is what makes it great. Thanks Sandy for starting this blog. We are all making new friends and networking with other pet lovers all over the place. Cool.

Yep, that pretty much sums up the ordeal for Miss tuttle in a Nut Shell... could not resist the shell pun.LOL... Tanya actually lives in Nashville near the air port so we dropped her off at home instead of the Rescue agency in Mt Juliet. We met some wonderful cats and dogs that Tanya is currently rescuing. We know that Tanya will make Miss Tuttle a great forever mommy!

Was kind of a bitter sweet day for us yesterday. We were coming home to see family and get to meet some new Pet people friends, but we also were loosing our new turtle friend which we came to adore the past month. Adn it was also 5 years ago yesterday that we lost our Skeeter! So it was indeed a Bitter Sweet day for us yesterday. Yesterday is gone and today is here and we are happy to be home in Clarksville!!!

And Dragon, You are funny with your turtle soup comment but not the first to mention it... when we were researching the internet to find a turtle rescue group, Father in law got tired of researching dead ends and said he needed to start researching turtle soup recipes... he was joking of course becasue we all know that he would ahve been made into soup before the turtle if mom ahd her way about it!!!

Dang Stacy! I am off Monday! LOL. I think I need my vacation very badly. I normally don't like to come to town on my days off, but I'll see how I feel! I usually spend one of my days off sleeping, the other doing chores!

hello all,
I',m posting this to two blogg areas to make sure ya'all see it. I called Don Poncho's and told them to expect from 10 to 14 people with the first of us to arrive at 6:00p.m. They said okey doke! Ok, they didn't really say okey doke but they said ok all you wenches bring that nasty mean old dragon and party hardy at our place. ok they didn't say that either but it sounded good. I told them it was was The Pet people, they said fine but still needed my name and phone number. So we are set for tomorrow night. Sandy I'm sorry you have to go back to work instead of being able to stay and kick back. Don't guess there is any way you can work it out is there? If not as we said we will have plenty of more get togethers. Better get off here before my service knocks off.

Has nothing to do with age Dragon boy! It has everything to do with working very, very, very, very hard to make sure you have a newspaper every morning. :)

Where is everybody today? I know Keeter and The Saint are probably still on the road but where is the rest of you guys?
After everyone else left us last night, Stacey, Skeeter and Mark came over to our house and we managed to keep going till about midnight. That was so much fun! Wish everyone else could have joined us but we will have other times.

My lord and master has me out in the hot sun working on the Cat Barrier. I just ran in to throw on some laundry while he waters the tomatoes.

Pam, it was lots of fun last night. Thanks for having us over. Sandy and I will have to borrow a game from her co-worker Jamie the next time we come over. It's a fun game and I think the bunch of us would have a hoot with it!

It was so good to meet everybody last night! I wish Skeeter and the Saint didn't live so far away. :( :( :(

So, Sandy, are we still on for your house on Memorial Day weekend? I confessed to the Boss last night that it was MY idea for us to gather there. He was quick to point out that he is demolishing the deck.

Gotta run and get busy. I hope to see some of you local faces at the courthouse tomorrow to support the animal control funding. Oh, Sandy, GREAT EDITORIAL!!!!! I'm glad they let you do that. Way to go Leaf!

I received an email from Miss Tuttle’s new mommy, Tanya. She says that Miss Tuttle comes out of her shell, is eating and basking on her sandy beach and seems to be happy in her new home! Tanya’s other animals do not seem to bother her and all is well in Turtle Land! A true Happy Ending for Miss Tuttle...
