Rocky Rules the Roost!

Okay Pet People, don't be scared by the funny looking family! Shannon, you really need some practice with photo shop!

As most of you know, Shannon and her family lost their boxer, Harley, not too long ago. He is now safely over the Rainbow Bridge. And, as fate always has it for us Pet People, a new Boxer who needed a home just happened to find a family that needed a Boxer! The new pup is Rocky, who Shannon told us a bit about in a topic below. Shannon says of the new family member:

"Here are a couple of pics of Rocky. You will get a good laugh at the one in the pool. I was in my bathing suit so needless to say I didn't want anyone knowing it was me! He is such a sweetie and we are really enjoying him. The house training is something I wasn't quite expecting but we will get thru it. He is supposed to be about 7 months old. We are going to the vet tomorrow as he is scratching his ears a lot. We still have to watch him around the pool as he jumps in for a swim even when we are not in it. He is very entertaining and wants to sit on everyone’s lap. We are suckers and let him whenever he wants to. My husband and daughters have even been carrying him around like a baby. He seems to enjoy that also—as long as he is close to us he seems happy."

She also said: "I am so jealous that I can't come to the gathering this weekend. I LOVE the cantaloupe martini at the Blackhorse."

Don't worry Shannon, I'm sure we will have many gatherings in the future! Now I like cantaloupe, but a drink with that flavor? I don't know, sounds sort of yucky. Has anyone else tried this concoction?

Shannon, you must tell us again about Rocky's flotation devise The Foreman got. Another pet who likes water. Alice got Thumper, a cat from Cats Are Us that she says likes water. She was thinking of changing his name. Has that happened yet Alice? Or is Thumper staying?

I still have several other pictures sent to me to post, and I will get to them, but I thought Rocky deserved to go to the top of the list!

Brett, don't forget to send pictures of Pearl's birthday party! I want to use them for my column next week, as it will fit with my subject! Then you can cut it out of the paper for her scrapbook! Just don't let Charlie and Lucy see it, as they might get jealous!

GOOD MORNING EVERYBODY!!!

ROCKY is completely adorable!! He fits right in to your family photo like he was born to be there. What proud parents you must be SHANNON!
SANDY--I senbt the photo again to the AOL address--did I do wrong again? I'm sorry if I did. Hey, just remember, I learned to type on a manual type writer in school! I am still "new" to computers. ok--I am using every excuse I can come up with.
PAM - I can understand the smoke issue. I hate to be a hypocrite since I used to smoke, but I have left places before cuz the smoke hang over would be worse than the drink hangover. Jeremy still smokes, but he will curb it for anyone who can't be around it.
SKEETER- wish you were here to have a beer!
ALICE- will hopefully see you at some point Saturday.
Did I forget anyone--if I did "HEY!"
I will probably not be as active on the blog today as it is the end of the month and my job becomes bery hectic--so you guys get a rest from ole big mouth. SANDY-if I need to resend those pics, I can do it tonight after 6 pm. Stacey has my cell number and Jeremy is going to be home after 2 this afternoon, so if your on deadline, just let me know and we'll make it all work. Everyone have a good day!

The AOL address is fine. I will get them there. I got my new email, but I don't give that out to just anyone to avoid spam. You do have it, so in the future you can email me at that one, but I will always keep my AOL address as well as backup!

Brett, it's funny you say that about how smoke bothers other smokers too because so many people I know who smoke say the same thing that it really bothers them to be i nit especially when they are trying to eat. They don't even like to go into the bars to eat.
As for me I wish it didn't bother me but I just can't help it. And it really is far worse than any hangover from alcohol for me the next day, I sty sick all day with headaches and can't even talk in a normal tone. I also stay sick to my stomach all day.

Here's the kicker--I'm mildly allergic to smoke--it makes the tube in my ears swell--In the thirteen years that I smoked-I have eaten so much Advil Cold & Sinus that I should own stock. It was the ONLY thing that would ease the pain in my ears and make the sweeling go down. I have read that smoke is very harmful to pets, especially cats. We haven't smoked in the house since I quit six years ago. I figure with Lucy's allergies and Pearl's condition, it benefits everyone to make everybody puff it up outside. Besides, we have a lovely front porch to sit on and rock.

Well, Thumper's name was changed but I still find myself calling him Thumper. So it's Miky-Thumper. The Miky is short for Mikhail Barysnikov, the hunky Russian Ballet dancer. Miky-Thumper is the clumsiest cat! I don't think, however, that Miky-Thumper wants to swim. He just likes to watch the water and occasionally sticks a paw in it.

Hubby set up our new pool in the back yard. The only exercise I can handle is water aerobics. The pool this morning is half the height as it was last night. Uh-oh. Hubby loves to work around the house, trouble is, he is just not very good at it. I do love him for trying...

My mom and I used to play bingo at the big Indian Bingo Palaces in California. Now, I smoke, but the smoke there was so bad, I was coughing and had watery eyes the next day too. So, I know a little about how you feel Pam. Yours sounds much worse, and I totally understand how you want to avoid feeling that way. I have bad allergies all year round. I am really allergic to cat drool. I break out in hives when it touches my skin so I wash up after playing with the cats. Scootie drools like a faucet when he is cuddled in my arms purring. He does that a couple of times a day, usually when I am online so I take a few minutes break to love him. Then he hears Miky-Thumper somewhere and rushes off to investigate. They are really having fun together!

Wonderful news about Thumper, God love him!! I have a drooler too. Lucy will sit and watch me eat a sandwich, and she will slobber so much that my leg is wet by the time the last bite is gone. Charley has began imitate her, but he's not as juicy as my Lucy.

Cute pictures! Sorry I have been MIA the past few days. I just now, saw the pics of my monsters on here. My hubby and I just found out we are expecting. It was a bit of a surprise as we had planned on waiting until the end of the year after our trip to Cancun in November. Needless to say, we will be rescheduling that adventure.

To answer the questions about the dog park. It is rare for us to actually take our dogs there, but the crazy thing is, they are better behaved there than at home.

When we were at the dog park there were a ton of dogs there and I didn't see any fights between dogs. They all just seemed to enjoy running around together and snifing each other.

What time is everybody meeting at the Blackhorse on Saturday? I am tyring to get things where I can make it on Saturday for a bit. We already had plans, but I am going to attempt to escape for a bit and come down to the Blackhorse.

CONGRATS, JEN!!!!! Happy news for you and the family.

We plan to be at the Blackhorse around 6:00. Those of us going to the Roxy have to be down there before 8:00, so there is a two hour window that we should be at the Blackhorse. Come on down. A couple of gals from the Humane Society are going to dinner also, so there should be around 14 people, if everybody shows up!! FUN!!!!

Shannon,
Rocky is beautiful and his face is much prettier then the rest of your family. LOL... Rocky seems to fit right in with the family portrait as if he has been a part of your family for a long time. What fun it must be to have a new pup around!

Jennifer,
Congrats on the “expecting” news! Could you not wait until Cancun? Just when did you find time to do the wild thing with all those little paws running around? LOL. Will be interesting to see how the Poms all handle a new arrival with two feet! You will have to keep us posted on your progress… Again, congrats!

The Saint and I use to be smokers as well. I stopped first and never complained about the Saint until he started waking up coughing in the mornings. Then I got to hen pecking at him about quitting. He tried to stop for me and that did not work. He was such a monster that I threw a pack to him and begged him to smoke. He quit one day on his own at some point when we lived in Germany. I don’t like to eat with smoke but I can deal with it. Here in GA they have outlawed smoking inside so it is not a problem for us here and after reading the Leaf today, it looks at though TN is on the same track. Funny the leaf is named from tobacco heritage….

I will let you have a go at Jeremy, Skeeter. I had quit for five years, fell off the wagon for a year, and then got back on it January of this year. He started trying six years ago and has never "made it". To be fair, he doesn't smoke like we both did in the old days--when the booze ran freely and the cotton mouth was high! But he still smokes enough to be too much. I don't hen peck-I b*tch about it. But he hasn' fell in line yet. I know from experience that a person has to ready. But a little nudge wouldn't kill him, right?

Blogger Stacey said...

No, Brett, a nudge won't kill him. Ironic you say that, since continuing to smoke very well WILL kill him, sooner or later.

Oops, I just borrowed Alice's soapbox!! SORRY!

I know how it is to be on the other side, since I helped Sweetie quit when we first got together over 10 years ago. Like Brett, he quit once and fell off the wagon and wanted to quit again. He needed "moral support", or so he said. So, I did my best to give it to him. Every blue moon he will sneak a smoke, and then hate himself for it. I've never had the addiction, so I guess I can't really understand it.

When I fell off the wagon--I had help. You know how yo all have cute little names for your husbands--let's just say Jeremy's would be "the Clutz". We were coming down our back steps to come to work and he slipped and took us both down 13 steps. I had a cracked tail bone and three fingers on my right hand were screwed up ( i'll show you SAturday)I couldn't take the pain pills and work--I couldn't take sick leave, and I couldn't type one handed. So after a few days of gritting my teeth, I finally said "somebody give me a smoke!" and that was all it took. I admit though, I have had a couple in the last month or so when the stress levels are at their peak. And I feel like crap for it afterward both mentally and physically. Oh by the way, Jeremy knocked one of the porch posts off with the side of his head when we fell. So I guess he got the worse part of it.

I think that Jeremy is now the "Clutz”…
Fingers, butt bones and heads…
Wow, was their ice on those stairs? Cat litter? Dog poo?

I have lived in many places with stairs and have fallen down as well as up them so I know about stairs. Luckily, I only had a bruise or two with my falls. I hope I did not just jinx myself, I am upstairs now and must tackle them to get back down… argggg

From the Humane Society:

"Local musician, Ben Wilson, will be LIVE ON AIR this Friday at 8am on the Ryan & Gretchen Show on Q-108 to promote Saturday’s Charity Concert event for the Humane Society at the Ice House Café. He will also be performing an original song about foster animals!!! Be sure to tune in!!! Also, check out
the Go! section of Friday’s Leaf Chronicle for an article.

You can see more about Ben here:
http://www.benwilsonmusic.com/ "

So, my Pet People, if you have access to a radio (and can get Q-108 where you are in the morning), listen in. Ben is not only a hot local musician, he is also a foster dad for the Humane Society. He and his wife Barbara were at the courthouse demonstration with Penny, a foster dog and their own dog, Boscoe.

Shannon,
Rocky sure looks happy in the photo, think he has it made from here on out with his loving forever family. It is so great that you adopted him and gave him all he ever needs but we know how he is giving you just as much back. Happy wishes to all of you!

Brett I have a good nickname for your sweet drooler if you don't already use it, "Juicy Lucy ".

Well people I have been trying to be a good girl and not put my nursing cap on with the smoking issue so far but thanks to Stacey the point was well brought up. It is a killer. I have to say that from first hand watching people die from smoking is one of the saddest things to ever see. A person literally suficates. I won't go into detail here but is is a horrible way to die. When you stop smoking it starts healing your lungs tight away ans in 11 years lungs are as if you never smoked at all. So B- think about that the next time you are tempted to light up even one or two. I just want to try and help all I can from having seen so amny wish they could go back and take care of themselves.
My last comments on the subject----
it is a inconvienence to not be able to smoke in a resturant but it doesn't make you sick to have to go outside instead where as those of us who are allergic or sensitive to it do get physicaly sick from it and can't even enjoy our food. All that being said I know how hard it is to sustain and to quit. I do try to see both sides of every coin as hard as it may be sometimes.

Alice, you asked the other day about the schedule of events for the fundraiser, esp the silent auction. I just now got a response back. Amy got with one of the organizers and the plan is this:

"We plan on cutting off the bidding at 5 pm and announce the winners shortly after that about 5:15 pm."

So, anyone that wants to try to bid on anything up at the silent auction, you should be there well before 5 so you will have time to peruse the wares, so to speak.

Speaking of falling. Now we've all heard about or have fallen out of bed ourselves, right? But has anyone ( besides me, and I was cold sober ) ever fallen trying to get into bed? This happened to me last weekend. Will tell you about it tomorrow and show you my bruise. I think me and Jeremy the Clutz may ahve a lot in common.

Daisylouu, you cannot wait til the last minute to request a ride to Clarksville. I for one would have eagerly volunteered to pick you up. I just needed a few more days notice to make the flight north. I would have been more than happy to flex my great Dragon Wings and wisk you away from your northern lands and brought you to the Gateway To the New South. I would also require directions to your fair village with the proper street address. If I was to land at the wrong house and some poor unsuspecting fair young chicky poo came to her door…. Well, it could be too much for the fair maiden to see the Dragon in his Red Thong. She could become overwhelmed with the sight. I could not have that on my conscious. Just remember, my dear Daisylouu, with the proper planning, you could have ridden me all the way to Clarksville. ☺

Ha, I can read between the lines big boy! Oh, wait, maybe you mean, she can sit on your back as you fly her to TN. Can she crack the whip if the Dragon's wings should slow down... Oh maybe now I know what you are saying. My fault for thinking bad things about the Dragon....
