Cotton tales

With talk on bunny's lately, I felt a need to show you my two guests from last year. Since moving into this house, we did not have bunnies and always wondered why. Just figured they did not like our yard for some reason. We knew they were around us as we would see them in the fields when we tended to our neighbors horse's.
Finally, last year the furry guests arrived!
First of all Peter showed up. He would scamper all about the yard every morning and evening. This would truly entertain Cheetah as she would run from window to window to supervise his visits. Sheba had better things to do like nap. Peter had the best time running around the yard an nibbling on grass and being a bunny. He would let us get fairly close to him without much fear. Then one day Peter was not alone. He had come into the yard with his woman! We named her Paula cottontail. It kind of goes with Peter don't ya think? Those two chased each other all over the yard and had the best time playing together. Then one day they stopped showing up. We are not sure what happened to them but we like to think they found a cozy spot in the woods and raised a family. But I am sure the arrival of the coyotes had something to do with their disappearance.
This spring we once again have bunnies! I normally love the bunnies but this year, they found my flower garden. So this time I was not so happy with the visitors arrival. We saw one then a second one and found a baby dead in the flower garden. We believe CC (Christmas cat) a neighbors cat is to blame for the babies death. They were munching away on this and that flower. What is a person to do with flower munching bunnies? I reached out to Pet People for help. Adrienne mentioned a spray so I investigated and found a spray which seems to work. The spray does not harm the munching critters just puts off a smell which deters them from eating the flowers and plants. It may put a bit of a tingle to their nose thus telling their brains to go elsewhere for a treat. It also seems to be working to keep CC cat from using an area in the garden as his liter box too! I was upset to find the baby bunny dead even though I was trying to figure a way to discourage them from the flowers. So now with the help of the spray (thanks for the suggestions Adrienne) we can live in harmony with the bunnies!

Skeeter, what an original name for a bunny. Peter. LOL. Hmmmm, did you name your yard the bunny trail? Just teasing you!

We used to have rabbits all of the time all over the place, but not for years, until the recent Scooter murder. They were in the yard every morning (the dogs' fenced yard) and I'd always clap and chase them out before letting the dogs out. They usually could make it through the chain link if I let the dog out unaware, which always amazed me, but once in a while they'd get caught.

Ha-ha Sandy. I name all the critters which come into the yard. All the bunny’s are either Peter or Paula (it is up to me to decide if male or female since I don’t know, I just guess) All the Lizards are Charlie. All the Frogs are Pete. The birds get their breed name, ie. Phoebe, Bluebird, etc. I have not seen a snake in a long time (thank goodness) but I call them Sneaky... Ah, yes, so original indeed...

Yes Adrienne, your info was indeed helpful! I now live in harmony with the bunnys in the yard thanks to you...

ok folks---its about noon on Saturday, we spent a couple of hours with Hines on our playdate. Poor little guy just didn't care for us--nipped me on the nose cuz I acted like an idiot and got too close. We are going to try another visit here at my home to see if a different atmoshpere will work cuz the bark park was really busy and Hines was having a ball with all the other dogs--bright spot-he seemed to gell with Lucy and Charlie. And Jeanette, his foster Mom, was WONDERFUL!! to us and tried everything she could do to warm Hines up to us--but he wasn't having it today. SOOO-I'm alittle heart broken and I have the Jim Beam bottle ready to soak my ego in. He's SOOOO cute ans sweet, but he evidently doesn't like my nose-LOL
SO, I'm depressed, but praying about this. maybe this is God's way of telling me that three dogs are too much for us right now. But I hope thats not the case. Everybody throw a prayer my way --your not gonna beleive this, but Pearl just came by and licked my poor little nose. (it's just a scratch--don't worry). If I can live thru having my gutts cut up and sewn back in backwards, I can live with the love nip from Hines.
Talk to you guys later. Been missing you lots!

I don't think Hines is the right fit for your family, based on his profile on the web site and the initial meeting and knowing your family and home. Don't choose a pet based solely on emotion--you have to make sure it's the right fit for the new pet, and the pets of your family.

I think you'd all be happier if you picked an adult dog that was more of the couch potato type, not a terrier breed, especially since you don't have a fenced yard and have a long worday away from the pets. There are so many dogs needing homes, don't make a rash decision without thinkig it all through.

My 2 cents. :) Blunt and to the point. Hope you don't mind, because a lot of people hate direct and to the point. LOL.

Skeeter, now how do you know the bunnies aren't Peter and Paul or Paula and Penny? Just giving a nod to Brett's family here, hey you never know, right?Hey sorry haven't had time to email but will soon, ok girl?
And Brett, sorry the outting with Hines didn't go so great but don't take it personally. Maybe you need another visit in another seting or there is someone really needing to be Hines family instead and another sweetie waiting for yours. And just look how your precious Pearl comforted you when you needed her.Hang in there buddy.

Brett, You must not have seen my question before so again I ask, were you in Rafferty's for lunch last week?

Pam, that was a week day when you saw this person at Rafferty's, wasn't it? If so, it could not have been our B. He does that dreaded "work in Nashville" like I do, so he could not have been there for lunch.

I pretty much agree with Sandy's sentiments about Hines. It has to be "right", not forced. There is nothing wrong with the pet or the person if it isn't "right". Sometimes, it just isn't. Period. I spent a while talking to B on the phone this evening, and he was really bummed. BUT, that said, he is reaching the point where he realizes the importance of rightness. He still plans to have Hines over to the house this week, but isn't holding out much hope that it will work. He thinks Hines is really attached to his foster mommy, and that maybe he thinks she is his person now and won't allow himself to be coddled by anyone else.

In any case, our B understands that he can't force it. Maybe the nip on the snouze was God's way of telling B that this isn't the time for a new family member. Whatever the reason, I am sad for both B and Hines. Hines would have it made in the B and Jeremy house, I can tell you that for sure!! But, I'm sure that there is the perfect family out there, and they will find Hines when the time is right.

Okay guys, this week was SAD!! With Skeeter and B and Pam all out of pocket for whatever reason, our blog family has been very lonely this week. I hope we will all be back in the saddle again next week. I MISS YOU ALL!!!!

So, when can we all get together? Several folks weren't enthusiastic about going to see "Chicago" at the Roxy, so maybe we need to skip that. We can do dinner at the Blackhorse and then go to B's house for movies and BYOB??? Believe me when I tell you that B has a DVD/video for everyone!! What do you all think????

Pam, tell us how Flyboy's first week back to work went???

Oh how sad I am to hear that Hines play date did not go well. But as others have said Brett, Maybe it is not meant to be. The terrier breed is known for being a bit high strung and maybe not the best suit for your family. It must be hard on you emotionally but keep in mind; there is a reason for everything....

Believe me Stacey; I was having Pet People withdrawals last week! But we had company and we were in and out and on the run so much that I did not have time to read or post!

Pam, I have no idea if the bunnies in the yard are male or female. In my mind, I go back to the childhood stories of Peter Cottontail hopping down the bunny trail so Peter they become. When I see two at one time, then they become Peter and Paula…

I have a great picture of a male and female Anole lizard on my porch. I know they are female and male by the pose they are giving me. I will save that picture for Valentines Day since it is so romantic! Bet Dragon will get excited over that picture because they look like little dragons…

I saw a deer drinking from one of my bird baths a few minutes ago! That was neat…

Skeeter, how cool was that to see the deer drinking from the bird bath, neat. I probably would do the same thing as you on naming the animals, it's habit. I usually pick either him or her for the day and just call all of them that to the cats as we watch them. Except for the red birds, even I know the dark red prettier ones are male, isn't that unfair? It's like how some men have the beautiful long eyelashes and here most of us girls have to use mascara, bummer.

Hi all,

B, I too am sorry the Hines playdate didn't go as expected. I would have to also agree with everyone else. Maybe there is another fur baby out there that needs you more? At least Hines is being well cared for in the mean time until a forever home is found. Hang in there B, whats meant to be will happen.

I have been having pet people withdrawals too. We have been Soooo busy with softball. We also have family in today, We have 2 ballgames tonight at the same time ( one at Montgomery Central- the other in Dickson...can Scottie beam me both places at once please?? Say a cheer for my girls that they win tonight!!)and then we are leaving for Yankee territory at 11 pm tonight after both games are over. Please pray for travel safety for us- I really hate driving all night like that. I hate leaving our newbie Rocky too. He is just getting settled into a routine and is becoming a vey good boy as far as his house training goes. We are fortunate that my oldest daughter will be able to stay here and keep him somewhat on his routine.

Well friends, I miss ya'll but know everyone has been busy busy, I hope evryone has a safe and happy 4th of July!

Thanks guys for all the 2 cents--I appreciate it--and don't worry about my getting upset--I can walk thru the briar patch and take a few scrapes. I know that whatever happens, the Lord will guide me. It's kinnda like having a crush and the other person not being that crushey on you. But then again--maybe crusheys just take time--LOL.
OH pam, no I haven't been in rafferty's at all since Christmas. (or something like that).
I'll be tapping in more often now that h*ll week is over. Everybody have a good morning and I will blog with you soon.

Ok Brett, the reason was I saw a guy that looked a little like what I remembered from your photo but then my memory isn't all that good nyway,ha. And I did remember that you work in Nashville and in fact commented to Fly Boy that it probably wasn't you for that reason. Then Stacey reminded me too so figured it was just someone who resembled you. So glad now that I didn't go over and ask if it was you as I started to do.

Pam, how ironic! I saw someone that looked like you in a grocery store the other day! I asked the Saint if he thought it looked like you and his reply was, now which one was Pam? Gee, I told y'all some time ago that he has a lack of memory with names and faces. We spent several hours in Pam and Flyboys house after our first Pet People meet and greet and he cannot remember what you look like! That’s my Saint! Duh, thank goodness his job does not require remembering faces as we would surely be in the poor house! So don’t feel bad about your lack of memory with a picture. I am not sure I would remember anyone from only a picture either but unlike the Saint, I can remember people after meeting and chatting with them for several hours! Oh and you were much prettier then your look a like too!

I thought that Danny was the funny one on the show! He was witty, had spunk, knew how to make a buck or two and he put everyone in their place with each show! Smart kid but now Smart A$$...

Hey guys,
Not had time to get on here much lately.
Thank you Skeeter for saying that sweet thing about me being prettier than my look a like.
And Brett, I realluy wanted to go over and ask if it was you so we could meet in person but glad I didn't embarrass myself now that I know it for sure wasn't you. We will meet soon.
I agree with Skeeter on Danny and think the reason they had Danny on The Partrige Family was the fact he was different and the trouble maker. It spiced things up a bit. I always liked him, but then I tend to root for the underdog in most cases. As for Laura being homely then Brett, how about poor Nellie? I thought she was just down right ugly till she got a little older. She outgrew some of that ugly,ha.
