Need Help with Cat Problem & Some News Updates

A problem maybe one of you can help with: I have a co-worker who is a HUGE cat lover. She has many inside cats she dotes on, and I have to tell you a little story of why I think she is so kind-hearted to cats and stray cats. When she was a little girl, the family had a cat. As cats will sometimes do to little children who don't know better, they scratch. Her parents, like so many do, got upset when it scratched her and took the cat off and let it into the wild. She found out about this as an adult and the thought has been with her since she found out. She takes care of needy cats in a sort of attempt to "atone" for what happened when she was a child, even though she had no part in the matter. Any way, that's my pop psychology for the day.

Besides her inside cats, she feeds a few strays that showed up. However, she simply can't take ANY more into the house, as she has A LOT already. Three of the strays on the friendly side, but still, as strays, are a bit skittish and wary, as Catfish was when I first go him. She also said she's noticed two under a year old she believes, who are more shy and probably litter mates. I know one of the first three is a long haired black and white, but will have to ask her about the others.

Any way, a neighbor called Animal Control about the outside cats. She's had problems with the neighbor before, who says the cats pee in her gravel or whatever. Understandable,I guess, if you care more about gravel than living things. So, on her door was a notice from Animal Control that she had 7 days to take care of "the problem."

On advice from and with help from Cats are Us, she hopes to get the cats spayed and neutered and then try to find homes for them, and you know how hard that is. Cats Are Us will try to work them in to the shelter, but that won't happen until fall at the earliest, as Spring and Summer explode with litters of kittens and they are overwhelmed.

We are hoping once she lets Animal Control know what she is trying to do that they will back off, but if the neighbor keeps it up they'll want to trap them and take them away--and you know what will happen to them.

So...........if any of you know of someone who would want to help one of these cats...or someone with a farm that would want any of them as barn cats (they'll be spayed and neutered)please, please email me. She would rather have them in that kind of situation than a shelter situation, which is much harder on cats that are used to always living outside. The small quarters and so many other cats around and the confinement might really be traumatic for them--and they are so overcroweded--that we are crossing our fingers that we can find somewhere for them to go. She of course, would have kept caring for them, but with the reporting, that is impossible.

PICTURE above is of Sheba, Skeeter's baby. She says: "Sheba is in one of her many baskets. This one happens to be a German market basket which I keep magazines stored. She does not care if there are magazines in it as they make a nice soft bed!"

All cats should have this kind of wonderful life.

NOTE: A change in my posting habits. I will probably start posting late in the afternoon or in the evening, so if you don't see something new in the morning, that's the reason! I am reorganizing my life! :)

I will still be off Sat/Sun in July and then to Fr/Sat in August. Having a get-together here in July will not be good for me on a Saturday, as I work Friday night late and sleep late--I wouldn't have any time to get ready. I would prefer doing something in the fall when it's cooler, and by then I should be on the new days off if things go as planned. I have a huge covered deck, but it faces South and July-August is way to hot to sit out all day for a cookout. Also, The Boss has the deck torn up and is reconstructing part of it, and that won't be done for a while. Maybe we can have a get together at a restaurant or something before the fall. Maybe rent the party room at the Blackhorse, depending on how many want to get together? Let's put on our thinking caps!!

Sandy,
How about we REALLY help your friend and the world out by evicting the neighbor. Someone should tell that a-hole to get a life. OK...sorry, I have been away from the blog for a while and I guess its not nice to come back using my "mean, psychotic" side.

My friend that was looking for cats just got 2, but I will see if they can use any more. I have a couple of other friends who live out in the county that might take one. I feel so bad for your friend. How sad to have such a horrid neighbor.

We had such a blast at Ft Walton. Not a pet story- but if you ever get to do the dolphin tours, I recommend it. We enjoyed the boat ride and we saw dozens of dolphins. Quite amazing and beautiful. Tons of stingrays too. Which traumatized my youngest daughter. She is terrified of stingrays just as Pam is of snakes. She was stung/stabbed(not sure of the right word)severely by a stingray when she was 3 and hasn't been in the ocean since. She is almost 10 now..maybe I should get her some kind of counseling?

Pam, I hate thaty Fly Boy is not 100% yet but its ok. Better to be safe than sorry. Tell him to be patient-all will be fine. Maybe you should add more to his honey do list to keep his mind off flying!haha

We are beginning the practices for the allstar softball teams so I will probably be hit or miss for the next week or so. I think we are at the ball field every night. Ya'll all (haha Skeeter- I said that just for you) have a great day!

I have been off here for a few days but now going to try and catch up. I am starting here so I may do a repeat or two in other post so bear with me...

Gee, I don’t know what to say on your friends cat problems Sandy. I can understand the neighbor having issues as we have issues with our neighbors dogs and cats roaming in our yard. But I am an animal lover and try to deal with them by befriending the animals then finding cat paw prints on our autos is not so bad. I ran over dog poop with my mower yesterday! That pissed me off but I laughed it off and said to myself, at least I don’t smell it nor did I step in it! I hope someone can find homes for the babies. Good luck…

Okay, what a beautiful black baby in the basket! She was not so beautiful this morning at 5:00am when she woke me up! Y'all know about her obsession with drinking from the faucet, well, now she thinks she can wake us up for a fresh drink at any time of the night! Not so with this mommy, I like my sleep! It took me several weeks to figure this out but it hit me about 5:30 this am after about the one hundredth time of her jumping up and down on us in the bed. The Saint calmly slept and ignored her; I tried to but finally snapped. She had just jumped on me then off the bed. I jumped out of bed and followed her quick shadow to the bathroom where I found her sitting in the sink waiting on me! That is when it hit me as to why she was waking us up. Water! I popped that butt of hers and off she ran with her wounded pride and back to bed I went feeling like a guilty mommy! I almost followed her to the sunroom to console her but what would that teach her? So back to bed I went. I never slept from guilt again but never heard another peep from Sheba either. When we got out of bed this morning, she greeting me as usual as if nothing had happened. We will see if that has broken her of this ”Wake up and give me water" game..... I guess I will get heck for spanking my baby but hey, it was not a bad spank just one quick pop enough to get her attention and I was spanked at times when needed too….

One of my dream vacations would be to swim with the dolphins! Yes, I would get into dolphin poop and pee water! I think they are such cool critters and would love to join them in the water…. Tame ones of course! I can relate to your daughters fear of the ocean Shannon. I am not so crazy about water where I cannot see the bottom. You should see how I freak out a bit when I loose the grip of my noodle at the lake and when I look from the boat for a minute then turn around and realize it is not within reach anymore! Freak out trying to get to the boat! The Saint is a sweetheart as he now ties a rope to the boat for me to hang onto! He was not a sweet heart to teach Sheba the Water Faucet trick though… As a child when we would all go to Piney campground, my mean brothers would chase me with dead fish and tell me all kinds of scary stuff about how they died from the lake water. Mean old boys! So to this day I have a bit of a fear of the lake and ocean…. Glad you and your family had a great time in FL….

I was feeling bad about bringing up the next subject but after reading Sandy’s post on the subject, here goes. We will NOT be coming to Clarksville as planned for 4th of July… We just made this decision late last night. Saints job may be on the line as another company was awarded the contract. We need to pay off some credit cards and we do not want to spend the additional money and the heat was a bit of an issue with us as well. WE came up there last 4th of July and had a good time but were stifled by the heat. On our next trip to TN my parents and I promised the Saint that we would take him to Nashville and do the tourist thing because in all these years (20) of us coming home, all the Saint has seen in Nashville is the Air Port, Opry Mills and hotel and the Spaghetti Factory! I never took him to Opryland before its demise! It is time he get to see some of Nashville and doing the tourist thing in the heat is not our thing! We went to a park in SC this past Sunday and melted like two chocolate bars in the heat. Since he would be burning up his vacation time from work, it is only fair to take vacation time when we all can enjoy it more in the cooler weather. So after reading what you had to say about the sun on your deck Sandy, I am up for a later fall visit!

Okay enough here, I need to move on to other postings…

Hey Skeeter! If running water is what it's all about, what about one of those little fountains you can get at Walmart, hell, even Dollar General. You could scrub it up, blow some vinegar thru the pump, and fill it with bottled water. It would have to monitored of course, butthe lure of the running water sould stop her from waking you up--right?
HEARTBROKEN that your not coming up for the 4th---so go ahead and send either Sandy or me your address where I can send this lonely little zebra to you.

Water fountain in the house! You are kidding right? If we had a fountain in the house, there would be water and tracks all over this house! I don’t think a fountain in the house is good idea. I just have to deprogram her little butt to stop with her obsession....

We have one on the front porch but cannot turn it on because a dam frog lives in the thing! I could not take it off the porch for the winter until he moved out! At one time he/she had a friend in there! We cannot have anything around here without animals taking it over.

I will email you later with my address. The Saint is now home and needs to computer….
Oh and I did not get a lawnmower yesterday. I will tell you about it on email….

A small fountain wouldn't be bad. You can get a small table top fountain for less than $20 at Wal-mart. A little spoiling never hurt anybody.

O'Malley,Brett, Thanks so much for the good wishes for Fly Boy. We expect to get good new but as you know prayers always help. And there isn't enough things in the world to keep his mind off of flying,ha. Shannon,I'm sure you understand that one.
So glad you had a great vacation and sorry your daughter had the bad experience with the stingray and now has that fear. My daughter got stung on the butt by a jellyfish when she was little and it made a really big place on her plus it hurt so bad!
I agree with you about evicting that neighbor who is complaining about that cats, it's a shame people like that exist.
Skeeter, hope all works out ok with The Saint's job, will add that to my prayer list.
Maybe one of those little water fountains would work for your baby. On the Cat Age site there was a aritcle that said there is a study showing a possible connection to Hyperesthesia and cats eating and drinking from plastic. As soon as I saw that I took all plastic away from my girls. Can't take even a remote chance with the others since Brittany already has that.
We may not be here the weekend of the 4th either. Fly Boy's family has a big family cook out to celerate that every year. I've only made one since I was able to get a cat and house sitter last year. A get togethere later on sounds great to me.

I am not bringing a dam water fountain in this house! I know my two girls well enough to know it would become a game of splish splash I was taking a bath…. I have enough to do to keep this place nice and clean. A fountain would not work out for anyone but the cats! But I bet it would be fun to watch them play in it. Hummmm maybe I need to rethink this one… My girls drink out of glass bowls and the only problem we have is that they drink water from the edge and lap it up over the rim and onto the matt below. I have tried putting in less water and it does keep the water off the matt but they both love their water and I am afraid I may forget to add more when it gets low! I am sure they would let us know though as they do tell us when the food bowl is low! I will just continue to wipe up the mess each time I see it… Dang, I wish someone would clean up after me!

If you believe in prayer Pam, then Flyboy will be soaring high again in no time at all!! That is if my words are heard….
Now Pam, you do know that Flyboy and U-Should are the night stalkers right???

Well, I have been thinking that the Blackhorse/Roxy night out was much fun. And would have been more so if B and Jeremy could have joined us. "Chicago" is coming to the Roxy for the whole month of July. Maybe we could do another night out in downtown Clarksville, with hopefully more that are able to come. Who thinks that is a good idea??? Heck, we could tie in the Madison Street Jamboree, and go there for drinks after the Roxy instead of to the Pub. That way Pam can come (she can't handle the cigarette smoke in a bar), and it's alot cheaper! We can BYOB. Just remember, Brett, you offered!

Hey guys, got on here one last time before going to bed. Got to be up at 5:00a.m. to go to Vandy in the morning. Anyway Stacey, I'm loving the idea of doing the "Chicago" play and get together! And with B's invite and a smoke free time that would be fabulous!!!!!!!! And we are looking forward to meeting you Bret and Jeremy too, so sounds like a plan to me. Well people, will look to see if I really need to make another comment or two on another entry then I've got to hit the sack and try to get a bit of rest for tomorrow. Good Night All!

That is something I value in this world so to each of you, you mean more to me then you may ever know! You have brought me closer to my home of Clarksville and make me feel so good inside especially on those days when I am really homesick…. Okay, lets put up the Kleenex and go to bed now…

Here are BIG HUGS to you Pam and to you Skeeter! Life works in mysterious ways sometimes. I've noticed that in my life, I've found the people I needed the most in the strangest places, and usually when I wasn't looking for them. When we met that first night and ended up at Pam's house just talking and drinking wine after dinner, it seemed like we all were just so comfortable together. It was the same with Brett and Jeremy. It's like we'd known each other forever, instead of having just met. I guess we Pet People really are kindred spirits.

Stacey,
I think your idea is awesome. I wasn't able to attend the last one and I am looking forward to the next! What is the Madison ST Jamboree? If we are here, I am game. We will be going to visit u-shoulds family in Pittsburgh for the 4th but will be back on the 5th.

Pam,
I will steal that little light thingy u-should wears on his head and meet you at the neighbors. We have to hack our time or some bs like that don't we? haha yes, LNSNQ!!!

Skeeter, your story about the lake is funny. I am the same way about swimming in water you can't see your feet. That is why we only go to the gulf now. The water is so crystal clear I feel safe. BUT-I have to admit it kind of shook my safe feel in the water when my daughter got stabbed. I was holding her hand and we were walking in perfectly clear water that was below my knee. She evidently stepped on one that was buried in the sand and it brought its tail over and stabbed her on the top of her foot almost completely thru her foot. We never even saw the booger. After that, I would definitely never swim in murky water, clear water is scary enough,

Its funny you mention the fountain. I saw what I thought was an absolutely gorgeous one at Kroger of all places. It was 40 bucks and had a pier one look about it. I thought my cats would like it too but then I had visions of my cats playing in it and turning it over while I was gone, the pump being without water and catching on fire and my house burning down. Quickly decided to spend that 40 bucks on beer and margarita mixer instead.

WOW o'malley--I thought I was the only one that had the whole "dream on" effect that nakes me see fire, flood , and disaster in everything we do. And yes, as long as no one objects to my babies and their continuous need for love and effection, the house is open for a post roxy jamboree. The smokers sit out on the front porch--so if Pam would neet to come and go by the back to avoid any contact, we can work that out. I must have two weeks notice to vacuum and clean though--and BYOB--unless you like bud lite.
I do feel like I've known you guys a long time. Just sitting around with Stacey and Dragon last Friday and telling them all my dumb stories (by the way, we didn't even scratch the surface-LOL) and looking at doggie/kitty cat pics and scrap books--I felt like when I was a kid and family would visit at my grandmothers. Just a big party--laughter is always mandatory--(and I've wasted some of my best material on stuffy old relatives by the way)ANYWAY, it was great fun, and the more we add, the better!

Pam, if you and O’Malley do plan a midnight covert operation I would like to be included. That type of sinister mischief is my specialty. It is very hard to catch a Dragon. When was the last time you have seen a Dragon, without the Dragon willing to expose himself.

O’Malley, $40.00 on beer and margaritas. Good choice.
$40.00 to have you house burn down. Bad Choice

Shannon, the Madison Street Jamboree is going to B's house! He coined the phrase on another topic about having folks come over and "lift a glass". I liked it so I stole it for our evil purposes!!

It sounds like a majority like my idea. Now, we need to select a day for this madness. I was wanting to do this on a Friday so that Dragon doesn't have to go to work after the play like last time. But, now Sandy will not be off on Fridays in July after all. So, I'm in a pickle.

What do you guys think?? Friday or Saturday? And is there a weekend that is better for most of us? Several folks are out of town around the 4th, so not that first weekend. "Chigaco" is playing every weekend in July AND August. I don't really want to wait until all the way in August though. That is TOO FAR AWAY!!!!

In fact, I think we should do something once a month!

Jeremy and I will be gone to Yankee Igloo land July 18-24th--but unless sickness or a development with Hines complicates the schedule--we should be good. We are both off Wednesday ,the 4th, only. And I think your right Stacey, most people will be with family or visiting family or be on the lake, etc. I wouldn't mind a long day of napping and watching a movie myself. And as far as "lift a glass", take it as a gift. But the "sucker" comment is owned and operated by this mouth. LOL! I'll loan it to Dragon, he has to pay residuals-HAHA

If you wait until August I can come on either a Friday or Saturday. What's playing in August? I didn't like the move Chicago AT ALL, so I wouldn't want to see it at the Roxy. But dont' wait on me if you want to get together!

If we wanted to do something this month we could do a Saturday matinee and lunch drinks, but maybe people have chores in the afternoon. Just a thought.

I saw "Chicago" one time while in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay’s Grand opening week! I thought it was different but a pretty good production so I enjoyed it. We rented the DVD of the movie with Richard Gere so the Saint could see it too. Hey, maybe y’all can rent the DVD and watch the play in the living room at the Madison Street Jamboree! Then you can go with what ever night works best for all. I am sure seeing the production at the Roxy would be great though!

I do like your idea of a monthly get together Stacey! Even though I would miss most of them I think that is a great idea. A nice way to put faces and names together and oh the hugs and pokes would be so much fun too!!!

O'malley, if you're talking about the NVG's then yea that is what we will don to take care of that little problem with Sandy's coworkers neighbor. You just do not mess with the Night Stalkers or especially a Lady Night Stalker! Dragon, of course you may join us for the good misson. Your skills will be much needed and appreciated in this operation and future ones as well. And Shannon, $40.00 would buy a lot of BEAST!
Skeeter, you gave me the sniffles with the sweet things you said about us bringing you closer to home and how you feel about us. Right back at you girl, we love you too.
I think a monthly get together is a great idea but it should be when Sandy and Dragon can join us. Maybe a Sat. afternoon or another night would work.
Sandy I'm with you on the Chicago movie, we thought it reallyu sucked and had to turn it off. But- we did think it might be good in live theater. Cat's I've heard so much bad bout I am very weary about watching the movie.
Stacey, hugs and hugs back at ya. You are so right, that night at our house was just like old friends being together and was so much fun! FLy Boy and I really enjoyed having you guys over and we intend to have the whole group as soon as we can.
