Update on Dollar! You can still help! Good news!

Stacey posted this down below under the Dollar topic, but thought I'd bring it up here to make sure everyone knows. Some good news:

"Humane Society Volunteers and Dollar Fans:

"We had an overwhelming response to our e-mail pleading for Dollar's freedom. Some offered to pay for vetting, many offered prayers & tears, and most couldn't physically take him in - which is oh so common amongst animal lovers. We all have full houses! But, in the midst of all the e-mails we found an extraordinary woman who agreed to take Dollar and provide him with a wonderful new home... we just need to get him vetted & transported to Cookeville, Tenn. where she will meet up with us. We're hoping to accomplish all of this on Thursday of THIS week. We don't want this boy to spend another HOUR living like this, but Thursday is the best we can do... so PLEASE help us make it happen so he doesn't have to wait another day.

"1) We need a volunteer to pick up Dollar from his current "home" located near Ringgold Rd./101st Abn. Div. Pkwy. in Clarksville first thing Thursday morning & drop him off at a veterinary clinic (somewhere in Clarksville to be determined) for vetting. He will be left there for vetting, bathing, grooming (probably shaved) & flea/tick treatment.

"2) In the afternoon we'll need another volunteer (or the same one?) to pick him up & take him to Cookeville (about a 2 hour drive from Clarksville located about 1 hour east of Nashville). NOTE: With the huge response received from animal lovers in the Nashville community, I'm guessing they could easily help us break this transport into 2 legs: Clarksville to Nashville and Nashville to Cookeville. Just reply to this email & let me know what you can do! Special Note: Dollar weighs about 80 lbs. & has been chained up for several years. We can only guess that he is VERY strong & probably doesn't have very good leash skills. So, the volunteer needs to be physically capable of handling him safely.

"3) If you offered to help with vet bills, we hope we can count on you NOW! We would like to cover all of Dollar's veterinary expenses for his new mom so he arrives looking, feeling, (and smelling) like a brand new dog! He will be fully vetted including neuter before transport. To donate, just click the PayPal on the web site. Or, you can snail mail your donation to: Clarksville Humane Society, P.O. Box 571, Clarksville, TN 37041. Be sure to put "For Dollar's Freedom!" in the memo line."

"Clarksville Humane Society phone number is 648-8042. Web site is: www.clarksvillehumanesociety.org."

There are so many ways to help animals. If you can't take one in, or can't help with transport, you can spare a dollar for Dollar and send him off to a better life! The Internet and Petfinder.com has been the BEST thing in the world for homeless animals, as now animal rescuers across the land can work together. Keep it up Pet People!

SAme here! Hopefully the donation will help get him to his new home in style. Somebody tell the groomer to give the poor guy a shave--he looks like Lon Chaney turning into the wolf man!
YOU guys are fabulous! Another fuzzy little face saved!! This makes my day!

I offered to do the Nashville to Cookeville portion, since I'm here, if they don't need it sooner than 4:00, but haven't heard back from Amy yet. I'm pretty sure she has been flooded with offers of help.

I just wish more people that get so worked up over this one dog would get worked up over ALL OF THEM! Then maybe we could make a dent in the animal control problem in this community. Oh, I forgot, it's only a problem for the irresponsible pet owners, not the entire community. Those stray dogs only bite irresponsible pet owners, or crap in their yard and dig up their flower beds, or attack their pets or children. Not us responsible pet owners, and certainly not the portion of the community that doesn't have pets. RIGHT???

I did a lot of praying for Dollar and sent a couple of donations as that was the only thing I could do but thank God there were many other offers of help! I'm with you Stacey, if only everyone would get as worked up over all of the poor sweet animals that need help!!!!!!!!!! We can only pray it will get to that point soon!

I can probably pickk Dollar up from his home here in Clarksville and get him to the vet, but I am not sure if I can get him from here to Nashville. I work at the Sylvan Learning Center and my morning is a little busy, but it might be possible. I would love to be able to help out. Call me and let me know if I can help. Kinda hard to transport from here in Pennsylvania, but I did send my PayPal donation. It's not easy to find the PayPal link on the website btw.

Welcome Dana, Brett's right, we are crazy on here but we have fun. Thank you so much for your offer of help with Dollar. Those of us who can only send donations are grateful to all who can pick up where we can't.
Daisylouu, I usually just go to the Humane Society website and click on the donate then it comes up where I can then use my PayPal. Have you tried that yet? I'd think it should work for you. If you ahven't tried that you might want to see if it goes through for you next time.
