Snips and snails and pet and people tales

Just a topic on bits and pieces of whatever you all want to talk about. I will be off for three days, so I'll need someone else to post topics if they can!

I was just thinking of crazy things we do for our pets. When I first got Catfish and he was traumatized and hiding under the porch for three weeks, I didn't want The Boss to cut the grass in the yard where he hid. I knew the loud noise of the gas mower would further traumatize him (he hates even little rumbles of thunder). SO, I bought a little push mower, powered only by human effort! And I cut the yard in the heat of July! Good workout, but The Boss thought I was nuts. I spent about 90 bucks on the sucker too! Now neither cat minds the lawnmower--they'll avoid it, but don't freak! Who thinks I'm crazy?

I read a story tonight at work(it's in today's paper) about someone striking a horse in the head--between the eyes--with a hatchet! They don't know who did it to this poor woman's horse. The hatchet was STUCK in the horses head, 2-inches into it's skull, but it will live. A vet stitched it up. People are such jerks, really. Animals don't do things out of pure meanness, so who's the higher form of life?

Everyone check out the paper today--lots of animal stories. One on the rescue of the dozens of poodles from the breeder who died in her mobile home. They are on their way to Texas! Also, a contributed story from the Humane Society. And in sports, a column from the outdoor writer on what dogs' need in this heat if they must live outside.

So what are you all doing to deal with this heat? I can't STAND it. The cats still like going out, but they either go under the porch or under a shrub and lie there all day.

And Stacy has some good news to share about her employment status. Ito's also her birthday! When was it Stacey? Today? Yesterday? Did we miss it? We'll celebrate that as well during our get together the 24th! Whooooo Hoooooo, the big 4-0!!

NOTE: Had to add a picture! This is Catfish when he was at Cats Are Us before I adopted him. He was waving to get my attention and saying "pick me!" His name at the shelter was "Hooker" because of the fish hook in his mouth, but I changed it to Catfish of course. Captain Hook would have been a good name too!

You didn't miss it. It is TODAY!!!!!!!! I'm the birthday girl!! Says so on this really BRIGHT hot pink (I hate pink) ribbon that Sweetie left on my dash this morning. Along with one that says OVER THE HILL. HMPH! He must be confused again. I haven't even gotten to the top of the hill yet. (Insert hysterical laughter here)

Yes, actually I was going to tell folks about the new job! So, I will do that now. As of August 27th, I will no longer be making the 56 mile trek to Nashville (and back) every work day. I have taken a position at the Montgomery County Veterans Service Office! I will be helping my fellow veterans learn about their benefits and helping them file claims for their benefits. I am really excited!!! Of course, I will be the only Marine in an office full of Army folks, but I'll try really hard not to hold that against them. LOL (get off my back PAM and SHANNON, before you even start)

So, those of you that are local to Clarksvegas during the day will have to stop and say hi. Pam, maybe we can go to lunch sometimes when you don't have the grandkids!!! I will need a few weeks to get settled in. So, not only am I celebrating a BIG birthday, but a new job also. WOW!! Happy Birthday to ME on that one!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY STACEY!!! (and Elvis Lives!)
Are you going to tie that Pink ribbon around anything special and celebrate in style tonight? LOL… Is pink the color to those frozen peachy things at Don Ponchos?

Congrats on the new job and less travels… The stress level must be great about now!
*************

I can’t believe the story on the horse and hatchet! Maybe this idiot will be caught once bragging about the innocent! I wish someone would put a hatchet in his or her head also so they can see how it feels! Just glad the horse will be fine. We are keeping and eye on our neighbor’s horses while they are a way this week. I just can for the life of me understand anyone doing such a thing to such a beautiful animal!

OOPS..hahaha just kidding. I am taking my anger out on you because I am older than you darn it!!!! oh well, just means I will get my SS sooner right? Have a great day and I hope you get lots of hugs, goodies etc. And include me in on that lunch when you get settled in!

Don't forget the Air Force! I have two items for Stacey's new office to represent the brains of the armed services. They will be a surprise, but she'll need something from EVERY branch to decorate her office. Of course, she'll have the most in Marine stuff, but she needs MORE. :)

Happy birthday Stacey! Please tell me what the last year of being in your 30's was like as I am in my last year of 20's and stressing about my big 3-0 in November.

Woking closer to home is always nice. I just changed jobs too. I was driving an hour one way, now it's 20 minutes and I love it. I am a sleep junky and love that I don't have to get up as early now.

Hey Stacey... GO ARMY!!!! ;)

Adrienne, the Big 3-0 is nothing to freak out over! Those were some of my greatest years but I still think the best are yet to come! Nothing slowed me down in my 30’s! Now 40 is a bit slower paced but I find myself not caring about certain stuff that would send me off into a ballistic hissy fit in my 30's. So being in my 40's has it's benefits also! You are as young as you make yourself feel. Some days I feel like 20 again and other days, I feel like 50 and I have a few years before that one…. LOL Grab life by the horns and hang on for the long ride!

Ops forgot to say, I recall seeing this picture of Catfish before and still love it! It is a wonderful shot of a cat with "that Paw out" saying take me home. So many times I hear people saying it was a paw on the arm by a cat that won them over....

The professor is going to be 50 later this year... gads... we could be your parents Adrienne!

By the way, Adrienne did you see my post on the other post? About the parasite? We'd really like to know what it is as Aimee has some of the same symptoms and we'd like to let the vet know.

Stacey, Happy Birthday! Sorry I'm a day late but our desk top computer bit the dust yesterday so had to wait till Fly Boy got home from his trip today to use his lap top to get on here. Congratulations on the new job! Shannon and I will not only ahve to give you a few Night Stalker items for your office decor but tune you in to some of the finer points of our "Elite" unit! We can do that now that we can do lunch, lookin forward to that!
And now to all of you who have hurt my feelings by talking about how OLD and over the hill 50 is. I will never see 50 again and sometimes I feel 25 or younger. It's like fine wine, I get better with age. I believe age is just a state of mind anyway. I know some really old old people who are barely 40 and some real young ones who are in thier late 60's and older.
Adrienne, girl your life has just begun and it is just only going to get better as time goes on, you'll see. Hey I'm older than your Mom and I'm happy about being this age.
But for all of you who think 50 is so far over the hill then maybe I'm too old to hang with you now so maybe I need to just drop out of the group and go start shopping for a "Jazzy" scooter, Boo, Hoo, sob, sob!
