The Night Before Thanksgiving From Adrienne

T'was the night before Thanksgiving and all through the kitchen;
I was cooking and baking and moanin' and bitchin'....
I've been here for hours, I can't stop to rest, this rooms a disaster, just look at this mess!
Tomorrow I've got thirty people to feed,
They expect all the trimmings, who cares what I need!
My feet are both blistered, I've got cramps in my legs,
The cat just knocked over a bowl full of eggs,
There's a knock at the door and the telephone's ringing.
Frosting drips on the counter as the microwave's dinging,
Two pies in the oven, desert's almost done,
My cookbook is soiled with butter and crumbs.
I've had all I can stand, I can't take anymore,
Then in walks my husband, Spilling rum on the floor.
He weaves and he wobbles, his balance unsteady,
Then grins as he chuckles "The eggnog is ready!"
He looks all around and with total regret, says "What's taking so long...aren't you through in here yet?"
As quick as a flash I reach for a knife,
He looses an earlobe, I wanted his life!
He flees from the room in terror and pain,
As he screams "MY GOD WOMAN, YOU'RE GOING INSANE!!"
Now what was I doing, and what is that smell?
Oh sh*t, It's the pies! They're burned all to hell!!
I hate to admit when I make a mistake,
But I put them on BROIL instead of BAKE.
What else can go wrong?
Is there still more ahead?
If this is good living,
I'd rather be dead.
Lord, don't get me wrong, I love holidays,
It just leaves me exhausted, all shaky and dazed.
But I promise you one thing,
If I live till next year,
You won't find me pulling my hair out in here,
I'll hire a maid, a cook and a waiter.
If that doesn't work,
I"LL HAVE IT ALL CATERED!

I'm not sure who originally wrote this, but I love it and have to hang it up each year. I thought you all would enjoy reading it too.

Hope you all have a good holiday!

Great poem! It makes me almost glad I have to go to work today on Turkey Day! Yes, the presses must run 7 days a week, holiday or not. I'm lucky--a coworkers who is off, Maria, is being an angle and and is bringing those of us who must toil away until midnight a nice Thanksgiving dinner!

I don't mind working so much, as my years in the military kept me away from family. And since The Boss's mom died several years ago, the family has split for Thanksgiving and we don't see them much. His mom always had everyone. I miss those days.

And of course, all my family is in PA. I think I'll go call them now before getting ready for work.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my Pet People posters and readers!

Well, here it is, Thanksgiving Evening, and we have had a full day. We got to Cats R Us at 8 o'clock and were out of there by 10. Of course they were closed tothe public, and their were MANY others there to help out. I know Ghetta and Suzanne were so happy.
It was a little bit of a sad day,we found out that our dogs there, Bubba, Cindy, Sandy, and Missy had all been adopted at the last PetSmart outing last Saturday. I'm sad because I'll miss them. But I am so thankful, today of all days,to find out that those precious babies will have forever homes. They brought some sunshine into my life, even though I couldn't offer them anything but a Saturday morning game of fetch and some love. I'm tearing up just writing about it. It's funny when you help at resues. The ones that you fall in love with are there one day and gone the next. You never know if that last lick you get will be the last time you'll see that particular animal.
BUT, God is so good, and I'm just being selfish. I thank him ofr bringing these precious babies and people into my life, and helping other people who can adopt them, see what beautiful, precious things they are.
ANYWAY--we had our little dinner here and are gearing up for the big sales in the morning. Love to you all and a Happy Turkeyday!!!

I just want you all to say a prayer, keep fingers crossed, knock on wood or whatever you do to help things happen. We found a dog on Petfinder that we want to adopt. She's in Lousiville and the next day that the professor has off is Wednesday so we'll be going there to get her... hopefully. I've written to the Louisville Metro Animal Control telling them of our wish to adopt "Paquita." Naturally, since it's a holiday we haven't heard back but maybe on Friday or even Saturday. We hope they can hold her for us until Wednesday.

Here is a video of Paquita that attracted us to her.

http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=9704017

She does resemble Aimee, dog princess... but she will be loved for who SHE is. No one could replace or Aimee, but Paquita sounds like she has the sort of watch-dog spirit that Aimee had and that I need.

Anyway... please help us send positive thoughts towards Louisville!

I hope you all had a wonderful day of food, family and friends, furry and otherwise!

Adrienne, funny funny poem. Sure makes ordering the dinner appealing. This is the first year I haven't cooked. We ordered a cajun turkey and sides from Popeye's this year. Was pretty disapointed in the turkey but it's a little better today. We spent the day with family at our daughter's in-laws as we do each year. It was a great day and we celebrated our son-in-law's grandfathers 80th birthday as well, so we had a lot to be thankful to God for!
And speaking of God, Alice I will be saying prayers for all to work out fine and that you will be bringing little Paquita home next week. Hopefully you will hear from someone today. Keep us posted.
Brett you ole sweet thing you, what a blessing to Suzanne, Ghetta and the animals you and Jeremy are! My heart achesx for all the precious animals that don't get adopted into good loving homes but at least those of you who volunteer are showing them they are cared about. God bless you richly for all you do!
Hope everyone ahd a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Alice, I loved the video! She sure does resemble Aimee and she sure does have a lot of energy! Hope you and the Professor are ready for that baby as I know she will be yours soon.....

B, you and Jeremy are wonderful assets to the world!

We had a nice relaxing Thanksgiving Day yesterday with the Saints parents and Minnie. We did something different and had the pies earlier in the day and then a traditional dinner complete with Turkey, Cornbread Dressing, Sweet-taters, Corn, Southern green beans, etc... Heck, we even ate in the dining room for a change! Was strange eating Thanksgiving dinner with the glow of the Christmas trees but since we will not be with the Saints family at Christmas, we kind of had our own little Christmas yesterday too... Our sunroom was an add-on to the house so the windows in the dining room open to the sunroom. Minnie was curious as to why we were in the other room, so she jumped up on the futon and looked into the open window as if to say, "hey what about me?" Was so cute that I made dad snap a picture of her as his camera was near by. Mom B was a bit upset as she is NOT allowed on any furniture so it was hard for her to get her down when we all were saying it was cute and to let her stay as the cats are on it all the time!

Minnie is making great progress with us! We are so happy about this that we plan to keep her for 9 days when Mom and Dad B go to Texas for New Years vacation. They were going to take her to Texas and put her into a kennel and we would not hear of it. So they will drop her off here soon after Christmas and we will keep her until they pick her up on their way back to VA. Mom B is a bit worried that we will not let her go back with them as we are bonding so well with her and loving on her a lot. She is still a bit stand offish when Mom and Dad B are in the room but she is gaining confidence because she keeps her tail up in the air with wags! She takes a treat from our hands also... She met Zip-Zip and he likes her but she is a bit large and intimidating to him so he just sniffs her and then runs off after a few minutes of rough play. We cannot let her off the leash so that is a problem with them playing also.

They are currently taking her on a long walk down our street and she loves her walks but was not too sure what to think of the horses next door! She tucked tail and headed back to the house after a bit of a stare down! LOL. I think this trip has been a great thing for Minnie in getting her associated with other people...

The cats are still not to sure what to think of loosing their sunroom. Sheba was really needy this morning so we had to give her extra attention and treats. Cheetah the monkey girl is doing her usual bit of hiding under the covers the entire time but she is not messing with us at bedtime like she normally does when we have company so that is a good thing, but she does run laps around the bed starting around 5:30 each morning! arggg....

The girls will get their sunroom back tomorrow and I am sure the noses will be on overtime for most of the day!
