News Updates!

Just want to let all you Pet People know that starting next month, or maybe in March, The Leaf-Chronicle will be going to a new Web site design. There will be a lot of new features, some of which are already being implemented, like how people can contribute community news and photos. It had been that people would submit news by e-mail, now they will do it all online.

And the blog system will change! We are going to a system called "Pluck." You can go to the Tennessean Web site to get a preview. This means you will sign up with a new name to blog AND do story chat--no separate names, passwords, etc. It should be a lot easier. Also, anyone can start a blog and can link to each other.

So, if the Humane Society wanted to start a blog, we could link to each other and form a Pet Network! Or say the Golden Huggs Rescue we are working with to care for the Waverly puppies wanted to start a blog since they work with this area a lot--they can do it too. We can easily add links to other social network sites or Web sites.

I will let you know more as it unfolds, but don't be scared! Remember how hard it was to sign on Google to post here? This should be easier, and you'll be able to add photos to your comments more easily!

Now, about the Golden pups many of us are helping with, especially Tina who has them: I talked to my vet and Brigett of Golden Huggs. Southside will do the spays and neuters and give a good discount if they are all done together. I gave Brigett their phone number. So, as soon as the Parvo vaccine is verified, the pups can be scheduled for surgery, second shots and then, finally transport!

It is amazing how from finding them to place Hot Tub Matt's dog Charlie, we've connected with them to help other dogs in this area. And maybe we can make a good pet rescue network with new Pluck set up!

You all are amazing, and by gathering here we've saved so many animals! And a turtle even!

Shannon: how is Samantha the Boxer doing?

I'm still out on the Internet at home. I supposedly went from "pending" to "processing" which is probably more bull!

So, everyone, catch us all up on what's been going on. And....I feel the need for a Pet People gathering SOON!

I'm so glad things are going good with all the dogs that were able to find a foster. But I'm concerned about the puppies.

It is not healthy for a puppy under the age of 16 weeks to be spayed or neutered. An early altering causes problems with there bladder control as they grow and as an adult. When we adopted a 9 week old puppy from the shelter we got a letter from our vet stating that they would spay the dog but not until she was 16 weeks old and that they would send documentation of the spay at that time.

For the prolonged health of these pups, this needs to be discussed prior to any surgery. Please please please find out. We've taken the step to save them this far, lets make sure they have a long happy HEALTY life too.

There is disagreement on this. Many vets support earlier spaying and neutering, some don't. My vet said they don't usually do it early but will make exceptions. The rules of the transport company say they must be spayed and neutered. It's just like with a lot of human medical procudures--some say yes, some say no, etc. I think problems are rare however.
