Cheetha gets a pet-icure by Skeeter

Is that a well behaved little girl or what? Cheetah (aka. Monkey) is my good baby. She will let me do practically anything to her. She is so much like my little man Skeeter was that it is scary at times. She has many of his traits and getting a pedicure is one of them. It did not take but a few nail clippings before she became this good for me…

Sheba on the other hand fights me a bit. It takes longer to do hers as she does not like to be held for any reason. She will let me get the back nails just fine but by the time we get to the front paws, she is bored of me and ready to move on so we struggle a bit. But over all, she is good too.

We had Skeeter’s front paws declawed because back then, that is what we thought you did to “indoor only” cats. Duh, Later on in life, we realized (educated ourselves) we did not have to declaw him and we regretted having it done to him. We had to watch him so closely with open doors as we feared him getting out of the house and then not being able to defend himself against another animal. I would clip his back nails and he was just as good as you see Cheetah is about it. So when the girls came into our lives, we decided from day one they would not be declawed.

I worked with them day in and day out from scratching on the furniture. I taught them what was okay and what was not okay to scratch on. It took about 6 months of me constantly on top of them before they learned. But bottom line, they learned. It took a lot of time from my day but in the end, it was time well spent. I still catch Cheetah scratching on a thing or two but I quickly get to her before she does any damage…

How are your cats and dogs with nail clippings? I know Poncho (cartoon) tries to hide the clippers! Too funny that Poncho…
